As a friend of mine recently put it, "When we become parents, we are so excited to teach our kids new things. But really, God uses parenting to teach THE PARENTS new things!" Since becoming a mom, God has been working on me. The number one lesson he wants this control freak to learn, is that I am NOT in control! I am having to put Colt's needs infront of my own, even if it's not convenient for me or doesn't fit into my schedule. Even though I am responsible for my son, some things are simply out of my control. For example, this week I dropped my son on the floor. He is fine, but it scared us both. From this I am learning that I can't control everything. There will be accidents (probably more to come, especially having a curious little boy on our hands :) and God can use whatever happens for the good of those who love Him! It is never easy for a stubborn person like me to learn a lesson (usually I have to learn it the hard way). So when I do learn something new, I am humbled that our GRACIOUS God would take the time to repeatedly try to get through to me. Unfortunately, it took me dropping my son for me to finally realize my control problem. Fortunately, God is in control and HE protected Colt!

Babies do tend to run the show for a long while! There are many, many lessons that children teach us. Some are good, and some are, shall we say, patience builders. : )
Don't feel bad about dropping Colt. Just to make you feel better, I will tell you about the time that we were in Missouri visiting relatives when Jackson was only 4 months old. The room we stay at in my cousin's house has a concrete pole in the middle of it. It was the middle of the night. I was tired, and as I walked by that pole (missing it myself), I heard a big old clunk followed by a scream. Basically, I banged Jackson's head into the pole. I felt so bad! I felt worse because I had so little patience with Jackson on that particular night. Not a fun memory, but I suspect we all have stories of things we have accidentally done to our children that we aren't proud of! You are doing a great job, and Colt looks healthy and happy besides being adorable!
glad to hear the little guy is just fine. they really are tougher than we give them credit for. i remember i had adelaide in the sling and was getting something out of the closet when i bumped her head into a door frame. she was just a few weeks old. i remember thinking i just killed my kid. i'm a horrible mom.
He's getting so big! We miss you guys!
Hey Charis! Colt is such a cutie! Yes, use the bumbo!!! It's so wonderful. I got the tray at a baby boutique in Sugar Land, but I've seen them at Babies R Us and on Target.com. It's called the Bumbo Play Tray and it's only $9.99! And I totally agree with you about being out of control!!!
